Overview

The aim of the academic master’s study programme is:

To provide students at the national and international level with competitive knowledge, relevant skills and competences for analytical evaluation of economic and financial processes in the context of smart development, emphasizing research skills for scientific and academic work and training highly qualified specialists in accordance with professional standards “Financial analyst” (profession code PS-118).

The tasks of the academic master’s study programme are:

- to provide students with the opportunity to obtain a competitive, high-quality professional higher education that meets modern requirements and is in demand in the international labour market, which includes comprehensive and innovative knowledge and understanding of economics, finance, etc.;
- to prepare students for work in the profession, having integrated various sub-sectors of economics and other branches of science in the study process;
- to develop students’ competences of research work, creative work skills and abilities;
- to develop knowledge and skills needed for the managers of the organisation, who are able and competent to take responsibility and solve financial and economic problems of a high degree of complexity;
- to ensure the achievement of learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences) in accordance with the knowledge, skills and competence of level 5 of the European Qualifications Framework (hereinafter – the Framework) and level 7 of the Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) specified in the Latvian education classification;
- to promote flexible acquirement and further improvement of the study programme and the study content in accordance with the changing processes of national economy, international market and technology development;
- to develop students’ skills, abilities and professional competences in the field of economics and finance, practical skills in working with modern technologies, general competences required in today’s labour market, choosing advanced methods and techniques that provide a learning environment favourable for personal and professional growth;
- to prepare professional Master’s degree holders for studies in Doctoral study programmes.

Programme structure

As a result of the programme’s acquisition, the graduate will acquire and be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE

1. To show specialized in-depth knowledge (including the one based on the latest discoveries in the field) characteristic of the economic and finance sector, as well as understanding of concepts and regularities, incl. cross-sectoral aspect.
Skills
2. Able to use professional theoretical concepts and IT solutions, perform professional, innovative or research activities, creatively obtain, select and analyse information and use it in the interpretation of economic processes.
3. To explain and discuss the professionally applied aspects of systemic economics and finance field with arguments, both with specialists and non-specialists.
4. Independently promote the development and specialization of their competencies, introduce innovations in the profession, acquire new knowledge, analyse, systematize and integrate the acquired information or further learning in complex and unpredictable conditions.

Career opportunities

1. Independently formulate and critically analyse complex scientific and professional problems in the field of economics and finance, justify decisions, take responsibility, lead a team, delegate and co-ordinate the performance of duties, effectively plan and organize their own work.
2. Integrate knowledge from different fields, contribute to the creation of new knowledge, development of research or applied methods of operation, participate in the development of economic branches and sub- branches.
3. Demonstrate understanding and ethical responsibility for the potential impact of scientific results or professional activities on the environment and society.
