Overview
The study programme of Chemical Engineering aims to train bachelors with interdisciplinary academic education that can serve as a basis for the further development of their intellectual capacity and scientific approach to the solution of complex problems arising in contemporary chemical engineering and the related engineering fields. The specialists are able to analyse and develop chemical and technological processes, to develop new products, and to choose the equipment in a comprehensive way, given technological and social, economic, and environmental aspects. The graduates shall be flexible and able to adapt to the fast changing chemical industry and to evaluate and choose solutions; on the basis of their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, they shall be able both to organise conventional technological processes and to make decisions that require new knowledge. They shall be motivated to continuously update their knowledge and practical skills. The objectives for the programme are that graduates of the department will obtain employment or attend graduate school, will advance in their chosen careers, and will be productive and fulfilled professionals throughout their careers.
Programme structure
The main courses in the curriculum include Mathematics, Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analitical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Oil and Gas Chemistry, General Technology, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Instrumental Analysis Methods, Chemical Thermodynamics, Renewable Energy Sources, Management of Business and Engineering Projects, Process and Equipment Simulation and Design, etc. During the studies, students spend a lot of time in well-equipped laboratories, where they gain necessary skills. The essential amount of Practice (15 credits) allows to develop in depth a level of practical skills of programme graduates.
Career opportunities
Chemical engineers use their analytical skills and aptitude for chemistry when working with ground-breaking technologies to enhance people’s lives. Graduates of Chemical Engineering study programme can be employed as chemical, processes, environmental, energy, production engineers in variuos industrial companies (food, chemical, enironmental, etc) as well as in ports terminals, as engineer-chemists at different chemical laboratories and etc. As a rule the majority of successful undergraduates continue their further studies either in the KU Oil and Gas Process Engineering graduate study programme.
